Viral drone video of China’s uniform rural housing raises eyebrows online
The drone footage shows uniform rural homes in Zhejiang
The viral drone video has shown China’s uniform rural neighbourhood which is connected by subways to nearby cities.
The neighbourhood is a part of Zhejiang’s massive rural revitalization involving billions of investment in modern infrastructure like high-speed rail and metro lines reaching suburbs.
The footage circulating on X has taken the internet by storm. The proponents of efficient housing praise this infrastructure as an initiative to relocate farmers and basic facilities like well-furnished roads, calling the residents as “lucky folks.”
On the other hand, the critics criticize this uniform design as soulless and close to dystopia. They have compared China’s housing to US’ uniform suburbs that cost over $700,000.
One user commented, “China drops it on infrastructure. That’s why their villages look like Singapore and some countries’ capitals still look like construction sites.”
Another wrote, “These ‘rural’ homes in Zhejiang say everything. China is able to build like this because their government works for the people — not for endless wars.”
One critic commented, “What kind of dystopian landscape is that? All the houses are the same, cloned, everything artificial without the slightest variety. Those who live there must feel like rodents in a monotonous cage.
Fourth one criticised, “What kind of dystopian beehive f*** up place is that? That looks like pure hell.”
