Kensington Palace makes announcement as Kate takes lead role in key event

Kate Middleton will have all eyes on her as the Princess is set to perform an emotional task at the behest of the royal family for an important event.

The Princess of Wales is stepping up in her role as she will be reading out a tear-jerking poem for Armistice Day service, according to Kensington Palace, via Royal Editor, Rebecca English.

The specially-commissioned poem recital will be a part of the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire held on Tuesday, 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month.

A Sonnet For All, which is written by Poet in Residence Arji Manuelpillai, is “close to [Kate’s] heart”. Following the recital, the princess will be laying down a wreath at the Armed Forces Memorial and view the new names inscribed on it.

She will then meet with the veterans at the service. Meanwhile, Prince William will be present in spirit as he has pre-recorded a message for to be played at the Remembrance Assembly at Royal British Legion.

It will be hosted by veteran and presenter JJ Chalmers and will bring young people aged 9-14 in schools, libraries, home education and other learning settings across the UK.

Princess Kate holds personal attachment to Remembrance Day as she is often seen wearing three poppies to honour her great-grandmother who had three brothers that died in action during World War I.

This year, she wore a Royal Air Force brooch, seemingly a nod to her grandfather Peter Middleton was a military pilot who served in World War II.

The poet shared that he intends to “shine a light on the bonds and relationships that lay often hidden by the conflict” with his words.

“Those quiet acts of care, the friendships that endure, and the sense of duty that binds one generation to the next,” he explained, noting that the “gentle responsibility to carry love forward” resonates with him and the Princess Kate.

He added, that the “importance of service and compassion lies especially close to the heart” of the Princess of Wales.
