A tragic incident killed 9 people, leaving 29 injured after a long-distance coach collided with a car and fell off a bridge in the northeastern region.
As reported by AFP the incident occurred on Sunday October 26,2025 after the long-haul bus, operated by the Sol del Norte firm, plunged into the Yaza stream from a bridge after colliding with a Ford car in Misiones Province, which borders Brazil and Paraguay.
The accident occurred in the early hours in Campo Viera, near the city of Obera from where the bus departed and took place on the day of Argentina’s national legislative elections.
"The accident, took place on National Route 14, at kilometer 892, when a bus belonging to the Sol del Norte company, which was carrying around 50 passengers from Obera, collided head-on with a car travelling in the opposite direction," the Misiones government said in a statement.
Misiones Provincial Health Minister, Hector Gonzalez confirmed, “There are nine fatalities, with 29 seriously injured.”
As reported by AFP, the officials informed that double-decker coach lost control following the head-on collision with the car, broke through the bridge’s metal barriers and fell several meters into the stream bed.
Police officials informed that the seriously injured passengers were transferred to more advanced hospitals in the provincial capital of Posadas.
Authorities informed that the accident caused major disruption as more than 100 firefighters and rescue workers tried to save those involved in the crash.
The incident occurred at Route 14 which was closed to facilitate rescue operations and the team labored for several hours to free people who had been trapped inside the vehicle.
Rescue officials informed a woman was found dead on the road, and it has not yet been determined whether she was travelling in one of the vehicles or was thrown out by the impact.
The team reports one of the car drivers involved in the terrific crash is also among the fatal victims while authorities are still working to identify more victims, as the transport company did not have a passenger list.
In addition to that the rescue officials informed that the coach was operating an interprovincial service, which allows passengers to board and alight along the route, meaning the exact number of people on board is unknown.
