Prince William releases a personal message on Wales' historic Euro 2025 clash with the Netherlands in Lucerne
Prince William released a heartfelt message to encourage Wales ahead of their historic Euro 2025 clash with the Netherlands in Lucerne on Saturday, July, 5.
The Prince of Wales has expressed support for the team as they prepare for their first match at a major tournament in their history, wishing them good luck as they make their Women's Euro debut.
In a personal message shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram, William wrote: "Best of luck to Wales as they make their Women's Euro Debut."
The future King added, "A proud and historical moment for Welsh football. Pob Iwc!' - ending his message with a thoughtful 'W.'"
The Welsh Government has also praised the team, with the First Minister reportedly attending the game and wishing the team well in their opening match against the Netherlands, who won the previous tournament in 2017.
Meanwhile, head coach Rhian Wilkinson urged Wales to "show the world who we are" in his heartwarming message.
Competing in their first major tournament and as the lowest ranked team in the competition, Wales are not only the underdogs for Group D but for the whole of Euro 2025.
"People can call us underdogs and write us off as much as they want but our belief in ourselves will be the most important thing," said Wales forward Jess Fishlock.
"I think we will embrace it and we will use it as an advantage."
Despite their lower ranking, Wales have shown they can compete with top teams under coach Rhian Wilkinson, claiming two impressive draws against Sweden earlier this year.
William recently met with the England women’s team as they arrived in Switzerland to defend their title in the 2025 UEFA Euros.
The defending champions have never failed to progress past the group stage at a European Championship.
The Lionesses have won their past 14 group-stage matches at major tournaments while the Netherlands are unbeaten in their past 13.
