Abdur Rehman takes charge as spin bowling coach for Pakistan
Former orthodox spinner joins team in Multan ahead of Test match against West Indies starting Jan 17
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test spinner Abdur Rehman as the spin bowling coach for the men's national team.
Currently, under the leadership of Shan Masood, the Pakistan cricket team is in Multan, where they will play the first of two Test matches against the West Indies starting from January 17, as part of the ICC Test Championship.
The national selection committee has announced a 15-member Test squad for the series, which includes three spinners: Nauman Ali, Abrar Ahmed, and Sajid Khan.
The left-arm orthodox spinner, who took 140 wickets for Pakistan in Tests, One-Day Internationals, and T20 internationals between 2006 and 2014, has joined the team in Multan.
Abdur Rehman, who hails from Sialkot, will celebrate his 45th birthday on March 1 this year. He had announced his retirement from international cricket in October 2018.
Before this, he was part of the coaching staff for the Pakistan women's cricket team. This will be his first experience as a spin bowling coach with the men's national team.
