PESHAWAR: The teaching staff of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) called off the protest after Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announced cancellation of notification of appointment of acting vice-chancellor of the university.
Speaking to the protesting faculty here on Thursday, the chief minister announced cancellation of the notification. He also issued directives for putting up summary for appointment of new vice-chancellor immediately, said a handout.
He said that educational institutes were future of the nation and provincial government would never allow anyone to harm it. Rather, he said, the government was focusing on improvement of institutions and ensuring all possible steps for removing the problems faced by these institutions.
The chief minister assured that the scrutiny committee would search a suitable person for the position of vice chancellor. He said the provincial government was strictly following the policy of non-interference in the affairs of the institutions.
“The provincial government was striving to check corruption to bring transparency in the society,” he maintained. He said that there was no need to stage protest as the government was committed to resolve grievances of the people. The teaching staff of the UET thanked the chief minister for withdrawal of the notification.
