UET approves budget
LAHORE
University of Engineering and Technology Lahore's 33rd meeting of the senate was held at the seminar hall of the chemical engineering department.
Malik Rafiq Rajwana, Governor of Punjab/Chancellor of the university, presided over the meeting.
The senate approved the income and expenses for the year 2015-16 of Rs. 2,633.281 million and Rs. 2,997.021 million respectively with a deficit of Rs.71.068 million.
According to a press release issued on Monday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid presented a report for the 33rd meeting of the senate. He remarked that as per HEC's ranking of 2015, UET is one of the top three universities of Pakistan. He also talked about several new initiatives which are in the pipeline including the establishment of Chinese Language Centre, Institute of Professional Development and various other multidisciplinary research projects.
The case regarding the up-gradation of posts of registrar, treasurer, controller of examinations in BPS-20 and creation of new posts was referred back to the syndicate with the remarks that it should also include other posts like chief librarian, project directors, chief medical officer, director planning and development.
At the end, Malik Rafiq Rajwana, Governor of Punjab/Chancellor, appreciated the house for having a democratic approach. He said senate session was a thought provoking. Talking to the media-persons, he said we are formulating a policy for regulating the posts of registrar, controller of examinations and treasurer in different universities. He said UET is the pioneer and the largest institute of education in engineering technologies.
All the deans of faculties and a large number of members of the senate attended the meeting. Imran Babar, Treasurer UET Lahore, presented the budget estimates for 2015-16.
Governor discuses health issues: Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana on Monday presided over a meeting regarding the issue of health establishments in the province.
According to a handout, Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salmaan Rafiq was also present.
UVAS workshop: University Diagnostic Laboratory (UDL) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised a two-week hands-on training workshop “Lab Assisted Disease Diagnostic Techniques” for the lab professionals from various districts of Sindh which concluded here on Monday.
Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Khushi Muhammad chaired the concluding session of the workshop and distributed certificates among the participants while Director UDL Prof Dr Masood Rabbani and professionals from central veterinary diagnostic laboratories Tandojam, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Mithi and Karachi were present.
Dr Khushi Muhammad said aim of the training was to create awareness of understanding of issues related to diagnosis of parasitic diseases of the livestock sector. Prof Dr Masood Rabbani said the training was exclusively arranged on the request of Director Veterinary Research & Diagnosis VR&D Dr Aslam Pervez Umrani, Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CVDL) Sindh Tando Jam, for strengthening the technical capabilities of existing laboratory staff through intensive training for human resource development.
