PESHAWAR: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ijaz Ahmad has said the police force has made significant achievements with regard to restoration of peace in recent years that has resulted in decrease in incidents of extortion, target killing, kidnapping and terrorism in the provincial capital.
“The response of the people approaching the Police Assistance Lines and Police Access Service in the city is amazing. They are getting access to the top bosses, ultimately leading to better results,” Ijaz Ahmad told The News after a farewell party here. The farewell party was held for him at the Central Police Office as he has to leave for a fellowship abroad.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani, a number of additional IGPs, deputy inspectors general and senior superintendents of police attended the ceremony. The IGP lauded Ijaz Ahmad for taking charge at a troubled time and improving things during his tenure.
Ijaz Ahmad said for the first time a well-equipped quality control room for the entire city had been set up at the East Cantonment Police Station wherefrom 24 points of the city were being monitored through closed-circuit television cameras.
“A well-decorated reporting room has been established in Hayatabad. Bodies were formed in all the three circles to provide speedy justice to the public. Hundreds of issues were settled there in the last few months,” stated the CCPO who took charge at a time when most of the senior cops had refused to serve in the volatile province.
The CCPO praised the support and guidance from IGP Nasir Khan Durrani.“It was because of the vision of the incumbent IGP that we launched a number of projects in the capital city during the last two years,” said Ijaz Ahmad. He added that like dozens of other development projects, two specialised schools were set up in Hayatabad and the Police Lines.
He said all the police stations were provided electric coolers and other facilities. He added three police stations were declared model police stations during the last two years.
“As military operations were going on in the tribal areas, the police in Peshawar and other settled areas also carried out a large number of search and strike operations. This has resulted in a far better law and order situation in Peshawar compared to the past years,” Ijaz Ahmad noted.
He appreciated the efforts of all those officers and constables who contributed to ensuring peace in the area. The official added that within the last couple of years, the force had got explosive detecting scanners, sniffer dogs, more vehicles and technology to verify any person or car.
A number of development projects, including those in police stations and police lines, were completed recently.“We have registered over 80,000 houses. Fingerprints and pictures of all the dwellers were taken for record. The posts located on the boundary with the tribal areas were strengthened and patrolling increased. Besides, the traffic system was improved. Now you don’t see any traffic jam like the past years anywhere from Hayatabad up to GT Road,” the outgoing CCPO added.
