KARACHI: At least four big T20 cricket tournaments will be organised in Ramazan this year in Karachi.
It is a tradition in Karachi that cricket lovers organise various tournaments during Ramazan, mostly at night.
Various sports institutions are organising T20 events in various parts of the city with handsome amounts in prize money.
Karachi Gymkhana will continue its 30-year-old tradition and organise an event at its cricket ground. A handsome amount of prize money will be up for grab.
There will be an event at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium.
A tournament will be played at the Naya Nazimabad stadium.
Former Test cricketer Moin Khan also organises a big cricket event during Ramazan at Moin Khan Cricket Academy ground in which corporate sector cricket teams enthusiastically participate.
People connected with these events said if international cricketers were available, they would also join the action during Ramazan, representing their regional or corporate sector teams.
However, some people have complained that heavy entry fees are demanded for participation in some tournaments, which is not a good sign.
But a tournament organiser said that heavy expenditure compels them to charge entry fees. “Events are organised under floodlights. Then we have to arrange colour kits, match officials, prize money and ground maintenance, which require a lot of money,” he said.
