CIIT clinches 18th position

According to global research outputs ranking table 2016 released by Nature, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) clinched 18th position among western Asian institutions in natural sciences with 246.2 per cent increase in weighted fractional count (WFC) in 2015 as compared to 2014.

Each year, the Nature Index publishes tables based on counts of high-quality research outputs in the previous calendar year. The data behind the tables are based on a proportion of total research papers, covering the natural sciences. The 2016 tables are based on Nature Index data from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015.

According to this ranking, CIIT topped Pakistan with National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad standing second. Other top ten Pakistani institutions include University of the Punjab Lahore, University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES), University of Peshawar, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) Islamabad.

Among the top 20 institutions from western Asia all three top universities are from Israel while King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Saudi Arabia remained on 4th position. Among top western Asian institutions five universities are from Iran, three each from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has one each as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad at 18th position.

Among the top global institutions, China succeeded to get top position as Global Academy of Sciences China stood first.
