DCO Khairpur under fire for ordering raids
Friday, March 14, 2008
KHAIRPUR: The DCO Khairpur has failed to defend his orders for raids conducted on the offices of the EDO Education and the Accounts Office and has drawn criticism for his action.

The News has learnt from reliable sources that the DCO Khairpur vide letter No:PS/DCO/47/2008 had directed the Circle Officer Anti-Corruption, Khairpur, to conduct raids at the offices of the EDO Education, Khairpur, and the Accounts Office, Khairpur, to expose their fraudulent practices.

In his letter, the DCO had pointed out that the EDO Education had illegally provided selection grades to five OT teachers of Khairpur and the EDO and the District Accounts Officer had drawn pay bills illegally without verification from the competent authorities.

Sources said that the Anti-Corruption Police of Khairpur and Sukkur, upon receiving the directives of the DCO, conducted raids on the offices of the EDO Education and the District Accounts Officer four days ago and had impounded the record of the said offices.

In addition, the Anti-Corruption police also impounded the record of the above-mentioned selection grades as well as the record of the offer orders of the 632 primary school teachers and the appointment of the lower grade employees.

Sources revealed that the anti-corruption team, after scrutinizing the record of the selection grade teachers and drawing of pay bills, found that the District Accounts Officer, Khairpur, had not engaged in any wrongdoing, and thereby proved that the information of the DCO was wrong and based on a tussle with the District Accounts Officer, Khairpur, who had put objections on the bills of the DCO.

Sources further said that despite orders of the DCO to the contrary, the Office of the EDO Education provided additional records pertaining to the offer list to the police. Being the chairman of the appointment committee, the DCO Khairpur had ordered the Acting EDO Education, Khairpur, not to provide the record of the new appointments to anybody.

Despite being a responsible officer, the DCO had taken such a step in haste and without verifying the information, which had caused damage to the credibility of the offices of the EDO Education and District Accounts Officer, Khairpur.

The Anti-Corruption Police have recorded the statements of the staff of the Office of EDO Education, Khairpur, and are investigating the matter. The DCO Khairpur was said to be under pressure of the anti-corruption team to withdraw the probe.
