Despite having large deposits of natural gas in Sui, Balochistan and in some other areas, the energy authorities are unable to provide sufficient gas to the people, who are now being forced to pay hefty charges for barely any gas. This caused both by a shortage of gas and, perhaps, the poor quality of the existing gas infrastructure leading to low pressure gas being delivered to homes.
Aside from putting households under severe financial strain, this trend of rising shortages and charges have a wider impact on the economy as a whole, damaging our industrial productivity. I urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action on the shortage of gas by building new pipelines and repairing existing ones. It is also essential to find new reservoirs of natural gas and raise gas subsidies for households.
