Thanks a lot: Imran
ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad on Friday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in the torture case of SSP Asmatullah Junejo during 2014 sit-in.
ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjamand announced the judgment that was reserved on April 13, after completion of arguments from both sides in a petition filed by Imran Khan seeking acquittal from the charges.
The decision was not announced during last hearing due to the absence of PTI chief. The court had warned Imran Khan that his arrest warrants would be issued if he failed to appear before the court on next hearing.
Earlier, the counsel of PTI chief Dr Baber Awan argued that neither the victim SSP nor any witness in the case had named his client for the incident. After hearing arguments, the court acquitted Imran Khan.
News Desk adds: At the last hearing on April 25, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand had summoned the PTI chief in person so it can rule on his request for acquittal from the case.
As the PTI chief appeared in court today, the ATC judge ruled in his favour citing a lack of evidence.
After the judgment was read out, Imran said, “thank you very much” in Urdu, Geo News reported.
