It is the dream of every student to succeed in her long journey of getting education and to see it culminating in a graduation ceremony where she is awarded a degree for her efforts. Keeping in view this philosophy, the Islamabad College for Girls (ICG), F-6/2, held its 13th Convocation for the academic session 2011-2013 here on Tuesday.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed was the chief guest on the occasion. Director General of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Dr. Moeenuddin Ahmed Wani and higher officials of CADD and FDE were also present on the occasion.
The ceremony started with the academic procession entering the auditorium, warmly and enthusiastically applauded by the students, followed by the national anthem. on the request of Principal Professor Ghazala Kalim, the chief guest declared the convocation open. The occasion formally started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The principal gave a brief report about the achievements of the college in previous academic session and its future plans.
The total number of registered graduates and postgraduates were 191, 81 for BA, 79 for BSc, 5 for MA English and 26 for MSc Psychology respectively.
The chief guest conferred degrees to the students. It was followed by prize distribution and awarding of rolls of honour among the outstanding graduates.
The FDE director general accompanied the chief guest to give away prizes. Some of the outstanding graduates included Samra Minhaj of Bachelor's of Arts who stood first in her class, Fabiha Ahsan stood first in MA English; she was first in novel and prose, Arusa Ghaffar of BSc stood first in her class. She was awarded the roll of honour and received first prize in Zoology and Botany. Qurat ul Ayesha of MSc Applied Psychology received first prize, roll of honour, first prize in Psychology Assessment, Statistics and Clinical Psychology.
Special prizes were given to Rabia Ali for obtaining first position in BSc-BA (Session 2012-2014) and Sumbal Saeed for obtaining first position in BSc (Session 2013-2015).
It was also announced that the college obtained top three positions in MA English (Session 2013-2015) conducted by the Quaid-i-Azam University and they are Maryam Jameel, Shahnaz Fateh and Maryam Asif.
After the prize distribution ceremony, the College Crest was presented to the chief guest and FDE director general. The chief guest was then invited for an address. Speaking on the occasion, he congratulated parents, graduates and faculty members. He talked about the entrance of females in higher education sector. He apprised the audience of various projects of HEC, including reaching the doorsteps of the students, fee reimbursement all over Pakistan, laptop scheme for talented students and MPhil & PhD programmes for the students.
