In a remarkable breakthrough, a joint team of CIA and High-Profile Crime Unit with the help of intelligence agencies has recovered a two-year-old boy who was kidnapped for ransom by gangsters after looting a house in Sector D-17 on March 27, police sources said on Sunday.
A gang of armed robbers not only looted the house of a retired bureaucrat at Margalla Housing Society in Sector D-17/2 but also kidnapped a minor boy for ransom.
The retired Grade-21 officer, a resident of House 26, Street 84, Sector D-17/2 (Margalla Housing Society), lodged a complaint with the Tarnol Police Station, saying that four gunmen broke into his house after cutting the rear window grill and held all family members at gunpoint, said police sources while referring to FIR Number 84.
Police said that the robbers, who were probably hailing from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa or Northern Areas, collected cash and gold ornaments worth Rs700,000 but kept ransacking the house for over two hours after tying the family members with rope. Police, quoting statement of the complainant, said that the gunmen grabbed his two-year-old grandson and left the house at 4 a.m.
The captors later demanded Rs30 million ransom for the safe release of the minor otherwise they threatened to kill him.
The interior minister took immediate notice of the shivering incident and constituted a joint team, comprising CIA and High-Profile Crime Unit, asking it to trace the gangsters and recover the minor boy.
The joint team made hectic efforts and finally found the location of the captors in Northern Areas. The team conducted a raid with the help of sensitive intelligence agencies and recovered the minor boy alive, sources said adding that police have arrested key members of the gang while remaining members are being hunted down.
The people engaged in the investigation of the case disclosed that two captors hailed from Northern Areas and two belonged to Punjab.
