The journey of Pakistani art started with MA Rahman Chughtai by all means is true as the legendary artist carved out a new school of art that was popularly known as Chughtai art. In 1948, the artist brought a surprise honour for Pakistan, when the International Postal Union, Berne, judged country’s first stamp as one of the most beautiful stamps of the world. There are many world famous honours the artist received. The Chughtai Art Home at Mian Salah Mimar Lane, in Garden Town, Garden block on artist’s 40th death anniversary on January 17 put up an exhibition ‘The child in Chughtai Art’. Artist’s son Arif Rahman Chughtai is doggedly keeping his father’s art alive by arranging exhibitions of his works on different themes off and on. Talking to this scribe, he said he has dream to build a Chughtai Museum that will make people more aware of the artist’s creations. Unlike other art galleries, he always keeps his exhibitions low-key. It should be the art councils of this country to highlight artist’s paintings for the youth to reconnect with their roots.
