Some terrorists hurled a homemade bomb near the Habib University in Pehlwan Goth on Monday night, the explosion and then the subsequent firing by the private varsity’s security guards prompting the police to rush to the scene and cordoning off it off.
SSP East Jawed Jiskani told The News that the police immediately reached the university when they learnt about the blast and surrounded the university.
Later, the police entered the university which was closed at the time. No classes were under way there and students had left it in the evening.
It was found that some men had lobbed a homemade bomb at the parking lot of the university and escaped.
The bomb exploded where construction work was under way. Two labourers suffered minor injuries because of the explosion. The SSP said the labourers were hit with pellets on their legs. He added that the university’s security guards fired gunshots in the air in response to the explosion.
The official said the police had thoroughly searched the university and no suspect was found inside or near it.
The university’s administration officials told the police that they had not received any threat.
The SSP said police had been deployed at the university and the bomb disposal squad had collected samples from the site of the blast.
