Two police constables deployed for security duty in FB Area were injured when unidentified suspects lobbed a cracker at them late on Wednesday night.
Three policemen had been performing snap checking of vehicles near D7 bus stop when two men riding a motorcycle lobbed a cracker in their direction. The cracker exploded and caused injuries to Constables Mehboob Ali, 37, and Mubarak Ali, 40. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the doctors reported them to be in stable condition.
The FB Area police said the injured men were former army personnel and had been posted at the Central Reserve Police.
Bomb found
A low-intensity bomb packed inside a beverage can was found near the Central Jail on Wednesday night.
SSP East Jawed Jiskani said information was received about a suspicious Pepsi can placed outside the jail premises in Ghausia Colony, in front of the New Town police station.
The police teams arrived and cordoned off the area while the bomb disposal squad was also called. The bomb disposal squad found the cracker bomb and defused it successfully. Its officials said the Pepsi can was stuffed with explosives, nails and pellets and had been manufactured locally.
