Six suspected terrorists were killed by paramilitary soldiers in raids conducted in Mominabad and Orangi Town on Tuesday, while an alleged Baloch Liberation Army militant was gunned down in Old Golimar.
Addressing a media briefing at the Rangers headquarters in North Nazimabad, Brig Mohammad Khurram said the paramilitary force, with the assistance of a federal-based intelligence agency, conducted a raid at a hideout of terrorists near Pareshan Chowk in Mominabad.
He told reporters that the interior ministry and Sindh government had recently issued advisories regarding imminent terror attacks in the city, adding that the two overnight raids came after reports were received regarding an attack on a sensitive location near the airport.
The terrorists, he said, fired gunshots at the Rangers and also hurled grenades at them. The paramilitary force retaliated and during the shootout, one of the terrorists blew himself up with a suicide vest and his associates managed to escape.
Rangers cordoned off their hideout and chased down the fleeing terrorists. In the ensuing shootout, two more terrorists were killed, but the others managed to flee.
The paramilitary force found two Awan bombs, five ready-to-use improvised explosive devices, three suicide jackets carrying seven kilogrammes of explosive material, three rifles, three pistols, 31 rounds, 15 kilogrammes of explosives, 500 kilogrammes of nut bolts and 15 battery devices. The bodies of the slain terrorists were sent to a hospital for autopsy.
Brig Khurram said Rangers conducted a raid at another hideout of terrorists near Al-Sadaf Chowk in Orangi Town and a fierce gun battle ensued.
Again, one of the terrorists exploded himself with a suicide jacket and his two accomplices tried to escape. But the paramilitary soldiers went after them and killed them in a shootout.
While searching their hideout, Rangers found a boy, Fahad Mirza, who was kidnapped by the terrorists on May 6 and they were demanding millions of rupees for his release.
Two sub-machine guns, seven repeater rifles, three 107 rockets, four improvised explosive devices, one HMG, six ready-to-use suicide jackets, 60 kilogrammes of explosives, five kilogrammes of ball bearings, 37 cell phones, a GPS device, 100 SIM cards, a semi-prepared improvised explosive device fitted on a motorcycle and 1,000 primer cards were also found there. Rangers contacted the boy’s family so that he could be handed over to them.
Brig Khurram said Rangers also conducted a raid in Landhi and found a huge cache of weapons and explosives.

‘BLA militant’ killed
Rangers also conducted a raid in Old Golimar and gunned down a notorious Lyari-based gangster who was also associated with the Baloch Liberation Army.
A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said Rafique was involved in many killing and kidnapping cases. Rangers found weapons and narcotics on him.
