Leather exporters to meet PM

KARACHI: A delegation from the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association led by Fawad Ijaz Khan will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday to seek urgent government measures against the decline in exports of leather garments and leather goods, a press release from the PLGMEA said on Wednesday
From July 2014 to June 2015, exports of leather garments declined by 9.74 percent, falling from $406 million in the previous 12 months to $366 million. In last July alone, the decline was 23 percent, in against the figure of July 2014, the press release said. In terms of quantity, the decline is more than 30 percent, according to the statement. From July 2014 to June 2015, exports of leather goods declined by 24 percent, from $16 million in July last year to $12 million. In July 2015 alone, the decline was 50 percent, compared to the figure of July 2014, according to the press release.
