Woman gives birth to triplets at hospital’s entrance

SUKKUR: The race to get to the hospital became a race against time for an expectant mother in Shikarpur on Friday. When she embarked on her journey to the hospital in a rickshaw at the eleventh hour, Sakina might not have known it in advance, but the fact was that there were not just two but four lives at stake. She only made it up to the entrance to the hospital where she gave birth to the triplets. After the delivery, she was helped into the hospital by the staff there. The hospital staff said that Sakina and her triplets — two daughters and a son — were in perfect condition.

Train compartments catch fire

SUKKUR: Two empty compartments of a train caught fire at Larkana Railway Station. The Pakistan Railways had run a special train to Lahore to facilitate the Sikh devotees to attend a ceremony at Nankana Sahib. The train brought the devotees to Larkana where it jettisoned the two empty compartments and continued on to its journey to Lahore. Just after twenty minutes of the special train departing Larkana, fire broke out on the two jettisoned compartments. Reports said that one of the two compartments was completely burnt. Larkana police were investigating the cause of the fire.Meanwhile, road accidents claimed three lives. In Khairpur, Mureed Abbas was killed by a truck when he was crossing the road. Dildar Golo died when he was hit by a tractor in Kandhkot while Abdul Hakim Bijarani died when his tractor overturned in Ghouspur.

Forensic lab inaugurated in Mingora

MINGORA: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Director Marc-Andre Franche has said the forensic laboratory would help dispose of cases quickly, improve service delivery and build the people’s trust in the police and the justice system. This he stated while speaking at an inaugural ceremony of the Forensic Scientific Laboratory here on Friday in Landakay. Swiss Ambassador Marc Pierre George, Holland Ambassador Miss Janett and Provincial Minister Mahmood Khan jointly were also present on the occasion.

Four killed in Karak gas explosion

KARAK: A woman and her three children were killed in an explosion caused by accumulation of gas in a room of a house in the Kundi area of Banda Daud Shah Tehsil here on Friday. The local people said that gas had accumulated in the room due to a faulty heater. There was an explosion when the inmates tried to light the heater. The 30-year-old wife of Faqir Gul, along with her three children identified as Sajjad Ahmad, 4, Sudais, 3, and one-year old Saeed, was killed after being trapped in the debris. The locals retrieved the bodies after hectic efforts.

Ogra recommends Re1 per litre cut in petrol price
ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has sent a summary to the government, recommending Rs1 per litre reduction in the petrol price.The authority also proposed an increase in the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.42 per litre and high-octane by 27 paisa.It also proposed reduction in the price of light diesel by 36 paisa per litre and kerosene by 75 paisa per litre.
CTD arrests two terrorists from Swabi

SWABI: The Counter-Terrorist Department (CTD), Mardan, has arrested two terrorists and recovered suicide jackets from them, officials said here on Friday. It was learnt that the raid was conducted by the CTD officials on a tip off. The two persons were arrested from the Swabi-Buner Road, an area where the boundaries of Razaar and Swabi tehsils meet. The arrested terrorists were riding a motorcycle when they were stopped by the CTD officers. The officials said it was a great success because the terrorists were arrested without a clash. They said the two were shifted to Mardan forthwith. The first information report was registered against them at the CTD Police Station in Mardan. The officials said the two men were being questioned. There was no information about their likely targets but the suicide jackets recovered from them were clearly meant for conducting terrorist attacks. The officials said the two detained men belong to Peshawar. They were identified as Sar Muhammad, a resident of Takhtabad, and Matiullah, from Mira Kachori.

PTI LG representatives stage protest against WSSP

PESHAWAR: The nazims and councillors of Bhanamari belonging to the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday staged a protest against the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) for the poor cleanliness situation in their area. The demonstration was led by neighbourhood council nazims Faridullah, Gulzar Khan and councillors Rahman Afzal and Daud Burki. The protesters were holding placards and chanting slogans against the WSSP. The protesters said that the cleanliness situation in Bhanamari and its surrounding localities was pathetic. The garbage piles are present everywhere and this unhygienic condition in the area has caused spread in diseases. They demanded of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to remove chief executive officer of WSSP Naeem Khan, general manager Nasir Ghafoor and Zone-C manager Ali Khan.

Man kills father, mother over domestic dispute

BAHAWALPUR: A man killed his father and mother over a domestic dispute in Green Town in Baghdadul Jadeed police limits on Friday. Zaman allegedly gunned down his father Muhammad Nazir, a retired army man, and mother after a dispute with them. According to SHO Irfan Akbar, when he reached the spot the accused Zaman, posing as a victim of his in-laws, said that his estranged wife with her accomplices allegedly shot his parents dead.
In the meantime, Zaman’s brother Ahsan came there and told the police that Zaman killed his parents. Police have arrested the accused and recovered a pistol from him and started an investigation. There were already several criminal cases against the accused and he had remained behind the bars.

Two boys crushed by train

GUJRANWALA: Two boys were crushed to death by a train at Kamoke. Hassan, 20, and Arslan, 13, were crossing a railway line on a motorcycle when a train crushed them to death.

Man jailed for 52 years in acid throwing case

BAHAWALPUR: The Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge, Khalid Arshad, on Friday awarded 52-year imprisonment and Rs 400,000 fine to Akbar Ali in an acid throwing case registered with the Cantonment police station. According to prosecution, the convict had thrown acid on Shamim Akhtar and her relatives over a domestic dispute. As a result, the woman had lost her one eye and ear. Meanwhile, hundreds of JUI-F activists on Friday staged a demonstration at the University Chowk against the attack on KP former chief minister Akram Durrani. The protesters were chanting slogans against the incident. They demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

Two children die in wall collapse

GUJRANWALA: Two children were killed and four others injured in a wall collapse in Kalaske. The children were playing when the wall of a cattle-shed collapsed. As a result, five-year-old Muhammad Arslan and four-year-old Sabiha were killed on the spot while Zain Ali, Safdar Iqbal, Anum Arshad and Rimsha were injured.

Another old farmer dies in PM Kissan Package queue

BAWALPUR: Another old farmer died from fever when he was standing in a queue at the Bahawalpur Sadr Tehsil Office to get his amount under the PM Kissan Package. The farmer, Qadir Bakhsh, of Chak 18/BC, Abbasnagar, who had been suffering from fever, came to the office to receive the amount. He was standing in a queue when he died from fever. Earlier, a farmer died of heart attack when he was standing in a queue in the Vehari DCO Office to receive a pay order under the PM Kissan package on Wednesday.

Poor results Action initiated against 77 teachers

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Education department on Friday initiated action against 77 teachers of the government primary and middle schools of the district for poor performance of their students in the 5th and 8th classes examinations. The results of their students in the annual examinations were very unsatisfactory. District Education Officer (elementary) Malik Altaf Hussain Saqib said the annual increments for three years of 31 teachers were halted as their result was 0-9 percent and 36 teachers’ increments were halted for two years as their result was 10 to 20 per cent and 10 teachers’ increments were halted as their result was 21 to 25 per cent.

Schools to remain closed on LG polls day in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: All government educational institutions in Islamabad will remain closed on Monday (November 30) on account of local government elections. However, the offices of ICT administration and the federal government will remain open and functional as usual on the day, according to a notification issued here. Privately-owned schools and colleges in Islamabad have also announced a closed day on November 30.

Six students injured in accident

TOBA TEK SINGH: Six students, including four girls, suffered injuries in an accident on the Gojra-Moongi Road on Friday. According to police, the girls were on way to their school at Gojra on an auto-rickshaw. When the auto rickshaw reached near Moongi Adda, a motorcycle hit it, leaving the motorbike riders Mubashir and Umer and all the four girls injured. The injured were rushed to the Gojra THQ hospital where doctors referred Mubashir to the Faisalabad Allied Hospital in a critical condition.

Explosives device defused near check-post

PARACHINAR: The political administration on Friday defused an explosive device planted near a checkpost in Parachinar in Kurram Agency, official sources said. They said that the device had been planted by militants on roadside near the checkpost in the Ahmadzai area in Parachinar, the administrative headquarters of Kurram Agency.
