Five killed in Swat road accident

MINGORA: Five persons were killed and four others sustained injuries after three vehicles collided near Goog Darra area here, the police said on Sunday. They said a motor car was on its way from Goog Darra to Mingora when it collided with a jeep and Suzuki van in an apparent bid to overtake. “Five persons were killed on the spot and four others seriously injured in the collision,” said an official. Those who lost their lives in the incident were identified as Abdus Samad Khan, Anwarul Haq, Shah Hussain, Feroz Khan and Mustajab Khan. The injured included Ilyas Khan, Sanaullah, Abbas Khan and Haider Ali. They were shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital in a critical condition.

Punjab DCOs asked to ensure abundant
supply in Ramazan bazaars

LAHORE: A meeting of Cabinet Committee on price control was held at Civil Secretariat to review the situation of Ramazan bazaars. The cabinet committee through video link got information from divisional commissioners and DCOs about Ramazan bazaars. Addressing the meeting, Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal directed all commissioners and DCOs to ensure abundance supply of food items in Ramazan bazaars and said that there should not be any complaint of their shortage.

Militant among three held in Lakki raid

LAKKI MARWAT: The police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a militant along with two accomplices during a raid in Tajazai village. On a tip-off, a police party headed by District Police Officer Ali raided a hideout in the village, said a police official. He said the policemen assisted by commandos of Elite Force and Anti-Terrorist Squad and backed by an armoured personnel carrier succeeded in arresting the militant. The law enforcers also arrested two other accomplices of the militant, the official said, adding that the arrestee, Adnan, was wanted by law-enforcement agencies in several cases including those of terrorism.

Haripur residents protest against faulty transformer

HARIPUR: Residents of Mohallah Afzalabad staged protest against out-of-order electricity transformer and blocked Khanpur road near the central jail area on Sunday. Led by Imran Khan, naib-nazim-elect Neighbourhood Council Janoobi-2, the protesters blocked Khanpur-Taxila Road, suspending traffic for about an hour in protest against suspension of power supply to their locality. The protesters chanted slogans against the Pesco officials for delay in replacement of faulty transformer that went out of order on Friday. They said that they met the executive engineer Pesco city division and informed him about their problem but he failed to replace the faulty transformer, forcing the residents to spend sleepless nights in the hot summer. Later, a police party headed by ASI Ejaz from the Telephone Industries police post tried to persuade the protesters to clear the road but when they failed, the police resorted to baton-charge to disperse them. The police have registered a case against dozens of protesters.

Prolonged power outages in Chakdara protested

CHAKDARA: Residents staged a protest against the unannounced and prolonged power outages and blocked the Dir-Chitral road for traffic for several hours. The angry people from different areas staged a rally outside the building of the Chakdara Press Club to protest the unscheduled and massive power cuts. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf local leader Muhammad Saleem was leading the protest. The protesters were chanting slogans against the Water and Power Development Authority and hours-long power breakdown, particularly during Sehr an Iftar. The local administration held talks with the protesters but failed to persuade them to end the protest. The administration called in the security forces as the protesters tried to march towards the gridstation. Meanwhile, the power transformers in Och, Chakdara, Ramora, Badwan and other areas have been damaged due to power fluctuation and low voltage.

Three people shot dead
over children dispute in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Three people were shot dead and two others injured over a minor issue in Dijkot police limits. Rafaqat Ali, a resident of Chak 281/RB, had exchanged harsh words with Muhammad Azam over a children dispute. Rafaqat with his friends Kaleemullah and Muhammad Abid was standing near his house when Azam along with his accomplices allegedly opened fire on them. As a result, Rafaqat Ali, Kaleemullah and Muhammad Abid were killed on the spot. Two passers-by Adnan Ahmad and Muhammad Rashid were also injured in the attack. The injured people were shifted to a hospital. In another incident, Ghulam Qadir of Chak 194/RB, Lathianwala, was allegedly baton to death by his brother Rustam Ali over a domestic dispute.

Trust to provide food packages to 85,000 families

NOWSHERA: The Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT) has announced to provide Rs380 million food package to 85,000 deserving families. Talking to reporters at the Ummah Children Academy here, Maulana Muhammad Idrees, chairman of the trust, said that the food packages would be provided to 20,000 poor families of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 65,000 families in the drought-hit areas of Sindh and deserving people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Rawalpindi. He said that widows, orphans, the disabled and affectees of military operations would be given the relief packages. Maulana Muhammad Idrees said that the trust had set up three centres for the purpose.

NGO distributes Ramazan packages among 100 families

Man kills two daughters due to poverty

GUJRANWALA: A poor employee of a factory Saturday stabbed to death his two infant daughters in Dhillanwali village in Eminabad police limits. Shafqat was upset due to his financial position and took the desperate step when his wife Shazia demanded some rupees for the treatment of her daughters Eiman, 2 and Haram, 7 months. He also injured his wife Shazia with the knife. The locals handed him to police. His wife was shifted to DHQ hospital. Reportedly, Shafqat was upset as he had given a big amount to one of his relatives for going abroad but he was not responded in a positive way. In a fit of disappointment, he killed his daughters.

Three killed in Kurram road accidents

PARACHINAR: Three persons were killed and four others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents in Kurram Agency on Sunday, official sources said. They said that a passenger vehicle was heading to Sadda from Thall when it plunged into a ravine in Arawali area. As a result, Abdul Malik and another man were killed on the spot while three persons sustained injuries. They were shifted to a hospital in Peshawar due to their precarious condition. Meanwhile, a man whose identity could not be ascertained was killed and his friend sustained injuries when their motorcycle skidded off the road. The injured was rushed to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Parachinar where his condition was stated to be critical.

Case registered against quack

CHAKWAL: A case was registered against a quack of village Shahpur Syedan on Saturday. Deputy District Officer (health) Dr Ikram ul Haq told police that he inspected clinic of quack Tasawar Ishaq and found him treating patients and administering medicines to them illegally. He told police that the quack was without any licence and degree of PDMC. The police registered a case against the quack.
