Man killed in PanjgurQUETTA: Unidentified armed men shot dead a man over an old enmity in the Panjgur district on Wednesday.Police said that the victim identified as Imam Bakhsh was present in his house when armed men entered the house and opened fire on him and fled from the scene.

house when armed men entered the house and opened fire on him and fled from the scene. As a result, he died on the spot after receiving bullet wounds. His body was handed over to his heirs after legal formalities. The reason for the killing is stated to be an old feud.

Pemra stops Bol transmission

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Thursday stopped the transmission of Bol television channel till the time an inquiry into Bol/Axact is completed. A release by the authority said the government had asked the Pemra to stop the transmission of Bol channels for the time being till the probe against Axact/Bol was completed by the FIA or other agencies.

PESHAWAR: On the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, emergency has been declared in all the public sector hospitals including tertiary care hospitals, district headquarters hospitals, Rural Health Centres and basic health units of the province. The emergency will start from 8:00 am May 29 till the end of local government elections process. The decision was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the province particularly the sensitivity of situation. A circular issued from the office of Director General Health Services said all the heads of public hospitals and medical institutions have been directed to keep the health facilities opened on election days.

Seven police teams formed to keep an eye on security steps

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Nasir Khan Durrani on Thursday constituted seven vigilance teams of high ranking police officers for the LG elections being held tomorrow in the province. An official communiqué said that the vigilance teams would visit the districts to review the arrangements for the elections. It said that the vigilance teams in light of the visits would also suggest improvement in security steps in consultation with respective regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs). The head of each vigilance team will submit his report to the IGP through additional IGP operations. The teams will reach to the designated regions on the morning of May 29.

Three injured in Peshawar firing incident

PESHAWAR: Three persons, including a 12-year- old boy were injured in firing after quarrel between supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Awami National Party (ANP) in Nauthia on Thursday. As per the FIR, three persons were injured in the firing at Gulberg Talab Road, including Majid, Muhammad Riaz and 12-year-old Waqas. However, the police did not mention any party in the FIR, but the locals claimed that some two days ago, supporters of PTI and ANP had exchanged hot words on pasting of posters of candidates for the local government elections to be held on May 30.

Man held for illegal currency exchange business

LAHORE: An FIA team conducted a raid on Thursday at Sheikh and Sons prize bond Al-Madina Road Township and arrested a man involved in an illegal business of currency exchange. The man was identified as Sheikh Muhammad Usman. The FIA team recovered Rs 160,850, $100, Saudi Riyal 623, UAE Durham 280, receipts, cheque books, etc. from the spot. A case was registered against the accused.

Clerk arrested for taking bribe in Lahore

LAHORE: Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Thursday claimed to have arrested a senior clerk of Board of Revenue (BoR) Punjab for taking Rs80,000 bribe. According to an ACE official, the official was identified as Makhdoom Ahmed. He said the accused accepted the bribe from complainant Mian Tariq Javed.

Two cops, militant killed in DI Khan clash

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two cops and a militant were killed in a clash in Draban area, official sources said on Thursday.The sources said that the militants ambushed a police patrol van near Korapul in Draban at 12 noon, triggering a gunbattle. “Two cops Azam and Munir were killed and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abdul Sattar and another cop Shah Jehan sustained injuries in the attack,” official source said. The cops, the sources said, also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for 30 minutes in which a militant was killed. The police recovered the body of the militant from the area, they added. Police officials said ASI Abdul Sattar had sustained injuries in clashes with militants in the past as well. The police launched a search operation in the area after the clash. However, there was no word about any arrest.

Seven booked for violating Section 144 in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police booked seven persons for violating Section 144 by using loudspeaker in a gathering in Gilani Town on Thursday, official sources said. The sources said that a religious meeting was in progress where loudspeakers were being used at which the police took an action and registered case against Jamshed Ahmad, Hussain Shah Gilani, Ramzan, Asmatullah, Idrees, Shakeel, Haji Khan and Maulana Gul Ramzan for using loudspeaker in a religious gathering.

Engineering student killed in accident

LAHORE: A 24-year-old man died and his friend received injuries when their car rammed into a footpath near Liberty Roundabout on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Taimour Malik hailed from Mianwali and was the student of engineering university. Taimour and his friend Hassan were on their way home in a car after attending the birthday of one of their friends when their rashly driven car went straight into a footpath. As a result, both received injuries. They were rushed to a local hospital where Taimour succumbed to his injuries.

PTI candidate injured in Hangu blast

HANGU: Two persons, including a candidate of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for the district council, sustained injuries in a magnet bomb attack in Shnawari area, official sources said on Thursday. The sources said that unidentified persons had attached a magnet-bomb to the vehicle of the PTI candidate, Nasrullah Khan, which went off when he was canvassing in Shnawari area. Nasrullah Khan and his guard Shahbaz sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital in Hangu. The doctors said that their condition was stable.

NAB arrests accused in Modaraba scam

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday arrested an alleged fraudster belonging to Lower Dir.A NAB statement issued here said that one Muhammad Yasir lured innocent people into investing money in the so-called Modaraba business on the promise that they would be paid a huge profit. It said that the accused disappeared a few months after pocketing the money. The NAB will produce the accused before the accountability court today for obtaining his physical remand. The bureau has asked the public to submit their claims with documents to NAB.
