KARACHI: The Earth Hour enthusiastically celebrated in Pakistan, bringing with it many commitments from all over the nation to help make environment more sustainable. According to a press release, the symbolic action of turning off the lights for an hour was observed by thousands of people across Pakistan. With the impressive cooperation of governments, each participating city took part in Earth Hour by switching off lights of significant landmarks from 8:30pm to 9:30pm pledges to reduce environmental pollution and conserve energy from citizens. The students, professionals and officials of each city gathered for the event. The cities also conducted additional environment-friendly activities in their regions, as per criteria of the challenge, securing their position as strong contenders of Earth Hour City Challenge. Earth Hour sponsors along with the senior directors of WWF-Pakistan, participate in the event by lighting candles and making commitments towards the cause. All the main and leading buildings, centres, shopping malls, hotels, institutions, hospitals and other land marks observed Earth Hour. The Parliament House showed its commitment by plunging into darkness during the hour to celebrate Earth Hour. The seniors led the Candle Lighting Ceremony and recited the National Anthem. Karachi switched off lights at its significant landmarks as it joined the international community to observe Earth Hour as part of a Global Climate Change Campaign. The members led the Candle Lighting Ceremony at the Sindh, The Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies supported Earth Hour by lighting candles. At Islamabad, the CDA Secretariat, prominent buildings and landmarks including Faisal Mosque, National Convention Center, National Monument, Pak-China Friendship Centre, the Senate, the National Assembly, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Jinnah Constitution Avenue plunged into darkness during the Earth Hour. Geo News and Jang group are in partnership with WWF Pakistan for the Earth Hour 2015. All lights of Geo News and Jang group buildings turned off and news anchors lit the candles to show commitment towards this global initiative.
