Four held with arms near Lahore

LAHORE: Security forces arrested four persons at Kotmomin Interchange Sargodha and recovered sophisticated weapons from their possession.The arrested were identified as Usman Ahmed, Muddasir Bashir, Abdullah Javed, Hamza Muhammad Khan, residents of Chak 19 Kotmomin, Sargodha. The security forces recovered six weapons from the car.

NANKANA SAHIB: Police have launched a crackdown on defunct outfits in the district. Mandi Faizabad police arrested Kaleemullah Moavia while Shah Kot police arrested Maulvi Saeed Ahmad. When contacted, DPO Kamran Yousaf said that both were included in the fourth schedule and arrested on the charges of hate speech. He said that cases had been registered under the 7-ATA against them.

Prison official shot dead in Haripur

HARIPUR: An official of the Mansehra Central Prison was shot dead while his friend sustained injuries when motorcyclists opened fire on them at the Old Bus Stand in the limits of City Police Station on Sunday, official sources said.They said that two armed men, riding a motorcycle, arrived at the Old Bus Stand and opened fire on Sajid Rehman, jail warden and his friend Attiqur Rehman.The locals rushed them to the Women and Children Hospital where the official, Sajid Rehman, succumbed to his injuries while the condition of Attiqur Rehman was stated to be stable.

Rs109.85 milliongiven to families of expatriates
Islamabad: Ministry of Human Resource Development has provided financial assistance of Rs.109.85 million to 867 dependents of deceased and disabled Overseas Pakistanis (OPs) belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during last five years. During the period, free eye medical camps were also held in overseas Pakistanis concentration areas i.e. Swabi, Haripur, Besham, Swat & Baffa wherein over 7,000 patients were treated. Highlighting the measures taken for welfare of overseas Pakistanis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (2009-2014), the Ministry has said construction of OPF Public School’s Building Budhani Road, Peshawar has also been completed. Moreover, 396 students children of Overseas Pakistanis from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have benefitted on account of Merit Awards and needy scholarship.

492 booked for misuse of loudspeakers

LAHORE: The Lahore police registered 492 cases and arrested 125 people on charges of wall chalking, misuse of loudspeakers and publication of hate literature.Police started a cleanup operation from January 8, 2015 under the National Action Programme and seized 131 loudspeakers, amplifiers, books, pamphlets and CDs containing religious hate literature from arrested people.

Extortionist held in Lahore

LAHORE: CIA police Sunday arrested an extortionist on charges of threatening and extorting money from citizens. The extortionist identified as Mohammad Munsha alias Machhi was arrested from Kabirwala, Khanewal. SSP (investigation) Rana Ayaz Saleem announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the raiding team.

Woman dies after seeing husband’s body

TOBA TEK SINGH: A woman died of cardiac arrest after seeing the body of her husband at Islampura on Sunday.Abdul Waheed died of heart attack when his wife was not present in her home as she had gone to see her relatives to some other locality. When she returned home and saw the body of her husband, she also received heart attack and died on the spot. Later, both husband and wife were buried at a local graveyard.

BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Minister for Cooperative Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar Sunday handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to a widow of a man who died in a bomb blast at Channi Goth Chakkar on Friday night. The cheque was given to the widow of Muhammad Imran, a fruit seller, on the behalf of The Punjab Chief minister after his Qul ceremony. PML N leader Syed Ali Hasan Gillani and MPA Mian Shoaib Ahmad Awaisi also distributed cheques among the injured according to situation of their injuries. DCO Bahawalpur Imran Skinder and DPO Sarfraz Falki were also present on the occasion.

BAHAWALPUR: As many as 10 candidates were arrested for submitting fake diplomas for the Lab Assistant jobs before the selection board. According to EDO Health Dr Shahid Khaleeq and DHO Dr Saeed Asghar, they were conducting interviews for the Lab Assistant posts along with two other members. They said that on suspicion, they interrogated the candidates about their submitted two-year Laboratory Assistant diplomas, which were later found fake. Later, the candidates were handed over to the Cantt police. On the complaint of the Health Department superintendent, the police registered cases against them. According to the Cantt police, all the fake diploma holders were sent to the jail on judicial remand.

GUJRANWALA: Two deputy medical superintendents quarrelled with each other at the DHQ Hospital Trauma Centre on Sunday. Dr Shabbir and Dr Aslam Chaudhry had set up their pathology laboratories near the hospital. On the day of the incident, they beat each other over an issue of referring patients to their pathology laboratories. Hearing the noises, the hospital staff reached the spot and controlled the situation. When contacted, Medical Superintendent Dr Anwar confirmed the incident and said that an inquiry would be conducted on Monday (today).

Motorcyclist killed in Lahore

LAHORE: A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Raiwind area on Sunday. Raheel, of Bhobattian Road, Sanda, was on his way to home when a speeding truck hit him, leaving him injured critically. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Human trafficker held in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: FIA Inspector Shahid Pervaiz Malik Sunday arrested a human trafficker from village Khiwa Saroki, tehsil Wazirabad. On a tip-off, the FIA raided residence of accused Shafi Ullah and arrested him. Shafi allegedly was involved in sending people to Greece and Turkey illegally. He was wanted in several cases of human trafficking.
