ISLAMABAD: Pakistani delegation led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif is leaving for Riyadh today (Tuesday) to have consultations with leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and asses the situation.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam confirmed the delegation would visit the Kingdom today. The visit was postponed last week due to Arab League meeting on the Yemen situation. Official sources said Pakistani delegation would also try to convince Saudi officials to tackle the issue of Yemen in OIC and UN.
Pakistani officials would evaluate possible peaceful means for the conflict resolution in Middle East, the sources added. “The Pakistani delegation would asses the situation besides holding consultative meetings with Saudi officials,” Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry told reporters on Saturday late night.
The delegation will have Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Pakistani military senior officials. It will meet King Salman, Saudi foreign and defence ministers as and other officials.
After having consultation with Saudi officials and assessing the situation, the delegation would return to Islamabad to report. Aizaz Chaudhry confirmed that final decision on the Saudi’s request would be made by the government after return of the delegation.
The foreign secretary said there is no compromise on defence of the Kingdom as all Muslims have great attachment to two sacred places in that country, adding that Pakistan would work for unity of the Muslims at national and international levels and would also address the issue at OIC.
