COVID-19: Capital Police set up ‘First Response Unit’
Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have set up a ‘First Response Unit’ (FRU) at the headquarters to provide first aid to its staff contracting the coronavirus in line of the duty.
“The unit will come into action soon after any of the police personnel shows the coronavirus symptoms,” said a statement issued here by the ICT police.
Senior Superintendent Police Headquarters Irfan Tariq will look after the administrative affairs of the ‘FRU’. Two rooms have been dedicated for the unit which kept oxygen tanks, nebuliser, normal saline and other items.
All the staffers performing duty at the unit were trained by the National Institution of Health to ensure proper handling of emergency situation. One doctor would remain present at the ‘FRU’ to assist the staff round the clock.
Meanwhile, Islamabad police have decided to set up a control room to provide guidance and assistance to citizens during lock down in the city.
The decisions to this effect were taken in a meeting here on Tuesday presided over by IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfqiar Khan and was attended among others by all DIGs, SSPs, AIGs and Zonal SPs.
The meeting decided to start training program for personnel of the force as how to protect themselves against coronavirus. It was also decided that citizens will be also educated about precautionary measures through a special awareness campaign.
The police control-room would promptly respond to the complaints of the citizens. The IGP directed all SPs to conduct meetings with the representatives of civil society and people of slum areas to sensitize them about challenging situation and protective measures.
