Mass migration

This refers to the news analysis, ‘Mass migration affecting Abbottabad’s demographic balance’ (August 15). The huge influx of people from turbulent zones into Abbottabad has had incalculable repercussions on the lives of the local people. Severe traffic jams are a constant feature of this influx. The travel time from Abbottabad to other areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has almost doubled. The present and the previous governments made no serious efforts to construct two important bypasses around Abbottabad, ie, the Havelian-Nathiagali bypass and the Havelian-Mansehra bypass. These two bypasses could have reduced the traffic burden on the mainland Abbottabad to a greater extent.
We heard the slogans of razing to the ground the walls of the Governor House in Lahore and other palatial buildings occupied by public servants at the taxpayers’ expense, but the Commissioner’s House in Abbottabad it seems is untouchable. It can easily be converted into a sports complex for women.
