This refers to the editorial, ‘Promise of power’ (January 27). The editorial has rightly criticised the government for the power and petrol crisis that created a historic commotion in the country a week back. By now we all know who is responsible for the crisis. Instead of accusing others, the prime minister should have the moral courage to tell the nation that it was his government’s failure and that the people responsible would be brought to justice. The crippling power shortages are a major impediment to our economic growth.
We should be honest and bold enough to acknowledge that it was the IMF that saved the country from possible default in September 2013 by agreeing to give us $6.7 billion over three years. Energy reforms are an integral part of the IMF loan agreement and there can be no relief unless more power is generated.
