Karachi
A police sub-inspector (SI) was shot dead by robbers in Clifton’s Boat Basin area on Monday.
According to DIG South Jamil Ahmed, 40-year-old SI Naveed Aslam was deputed for security duty with Dr Qamar Abbas, the owner of a private hospital located in the DHA area.
The DIG said the shooting occurred in Clifton’s Block-5 near Karachi Grammar School when two men tried to snatch Dr Qamar’s bag as she made her way to her car. As SI Naveed intervened and tried to overpower the muggers, one of them managed to shoot him in the chest at close range.
The killers managed to flee the scene with Dr Qamar’s valuables and SI Naveed was rushed to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A case was reported and DIG Ahmed said the shooting was being investigated from all possible angles and CCTV footage was being scoured for clues.
