Teachers annoyed at hockey event attendance orders
LAHORE:Schoolteachers in the provincial metropolis have expressed strong concerns over ‘mandatory attendance’ orders for male teachers to attend hockey tournament being organised by the district government.
A number of teachers told The News that they received SMS and WhatsApp messages from heads of their respective institutions to ensure their attendance at the National Hockey Stadium to attend Commissioner Lahore Under-13 Hockey League on July 14.
“Head shall be responsible in case of any mismanagement or negligence. Its high profile and National cause duty and zero tolerance policy will be followed in case of even minor violation,” reads the message shared by a teacher with ‘The News’.
Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has also expressed its concern over the orders. PTU’s General Secretary Rana Liaqat said that instead of forcing teachers, the government should encourage youth to attend such tournaments to promote sports among them.
