Steroids usage destroying health: experts
LAHORE
The medical experts have warned public against usage of steroids which are responsible for side-effects and more complications against expectation of quick healing of different ailments.
“The steroids introduced in recent decades have played more havoc with the human health than benefitting in the form of recovery from different diseases,” they said, while speaking at a seminar on “Latest Stem Cell Therapy First Time in Pakistan – Anti-Aging, Arthritis, Paralysis and Treatment of Knee and Joint Pains” organised by Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society (Jang Group of Newspapers) in collaboration with Advanced Pain Centres at a local hotel on Wednesday.
Dr Abdul Naeem Noshad, Chairman Advanced Pain Centres, said the usage of steroids was destroying the health of people, and added that they had been providing relief to patients from acute pains through latest stem cell therapy. While mentioning that there are so many types of stem cell therapy, he said the healthy cells were extracted from patient’s body and treated through a special process and again inserted in the body and helped remove the pain in different parts of the body.
“We are providing relief and treating patients of knee and joints’ pains, arthritis, paralysis, osteoporosis, cancer and several other incurable diseases through this latest method of treatment,” he said and added that they were going to introduce new medicines before 2020. He advised people not to get stem cell therapy treatment if cells were not fresh because the frozen cells caused more complications than healing.
He said the government had not made health its priority as no new hospital had been established since 1988.
He said that healthcare system in Pakistan had collapsed and people didn’t want to get treatment in public sector hospitals but the poor patients had no choice. He said that the people were also going to quacks due to lack of quality healthcare in government hospitals, which was increasing the burden of diseases in the country.
He said that the well-off people had to go abroad to get treatment for their diseases against a very high cost, adding that they had created a team of experts from America in order to provide state-of-the-art treatment to the patients. He said there was success rate of up to 80 per cent of the treatment of sugar and muscular pain.
Dr Brigitte Hanly said that stem cell therapy was discovered five years ago, which included bone marrow stem cell, fetus stem cell, and embryonic stem cells. She said that the relief could also be provided in heart and brain ailments through stem cells therapy. She said that the restoration of cells in the US cost around $20,000 to $50,000, whereas it was being made available in Pakistan in a cost-effective manner.
Humaira Khurram, a yoga expert, advised people to include physical activity in their lifestyles in order to breathe easy, which could prevent a lot of diseases. Besides, she said, positive thinking can also improve the personality.
Shuja’at Hashmi, a veteran TV actor, also appreciated the efforts of Dr Abdul Naeem in providing relief to the patients, which is a great service to humanity.
He also appreciated the role of Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society in creating awareness among people regarding prevention of diseases. Later, a question and answer session was also held in which experts gave useful tips to the participants of the seminar.
Besides, GEO News reporter Amin Hafeez also spoke, while MKRMS Chairman Wasif Nagi hosted the seminar.
