EC postpones LG polls in Sanghar, Badin
To hold LG polls on vacant seats in Sindh on 30th
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has postponed the local government elections in Sanghar and Badin districts scheduled to be held on December 17.
The decision was taken on the request of Sindh government due to the prevailing law and order situation in the two districts, said a notification issued by EC Wednesday. Fresh date for poll will be fixed after visible improvement in law and order situation in the said districts, it added.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has decided to hold local government elections at vacant seats of Sindh on December 30 and also issued schedule in this regard. The election would be conducted on those local councils which were vacant due to non-filing of nomination papers during the first and second phases held on October 31 and November 19 respectively, said spokesman of the EC.
According to him nomination papers can be filed with the returning officers on December 17. Scrutiny of nomination papers would take place on December 18. Last date for filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of appeals would be 19 and tribunals would decide appeals by December 20 he added. Last date for withdrawal of candidature would be December 21 and the revised list of candidates would be published on December 22. Polling would be held on December 30.
