Section 144 enforced for another three months in city

The Sindh government extended the imposition of Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedures in Karachi for another 90 days and a notification to this effect was issued by the additional chief secretary of home department on Tuesday.
The public display of arms and wearing of civil clothes by private security guards will be banned for another 90 days along with other anti-public activities.
The Section 144 had been imposed three months ago for putting a stop to certain anti-social activities in the city.
The notification issued on Tuesday reads: “In continuation of the department’s notification dated 19th August, 2015, the ban imposed under section 144 (6) CrPC on the following acts in Karachi division is hereby extended for another period of 90 days on the same terms and conditions under which the following will be forbidden:
(i) Display of arms; (ii) guards wearing civil clothes except that of law-enforcement agencies; (iii) security guards wearing uniforms having resemblance with uniform of police and other law-enforcement agencies; (iv) private vehicles having resemblance with vehicles of police and other law-enforcement agencies; (v) private vehicles with mounted police lights; (vi) private vehicles with tinted glasses, unauthorised blue lights and fancy number plates; (vii) private vehicles with police sirens and hooters." The extension of the validity of imposition of section-144 in Karachi is considered vital as part of the government’s strategy to maintain law and order situation in the city during and before upcoming local government elections in Karachi, scheduled for December 5.
