Nine suspects were arrested in separate raids conducted by the Sindh Rangers on Sunday, while an alleged robber was gunned down in an encounter with the police.
According to a spokesperson for the paramilitary force, the nine suspects include target killers, extortionists affiliated with political parties and banned outfits, and were arrested in raids conducted in Malir, Rafah-e-Aam Society, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Ittehad Town, Kharadar, Jamshed Town and Gulshan-e-Maymar areas. Further investigations were underway.
Suspect killed
In the wee hours of Saturday, an alleged robber was gunned down in an encounter in the Super Highway Industrial Area police limits.
As per officials, a patrolling mobile came across a snatching bid near the New Sabzi Mandi and intervened. In the ensuing shootout, one of the four suspects was injured while his three accomplices managed to flee. The citizen who was being robbed, identified by the police as Jaleem Khan, also suffered a minor gunshot wound.
The injured suspect, who remains unidentified, was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. A pistol was said to have been found in his possession and, with a case lodged, further investigations were in process.
Accidents claim four lives
At least four people including a minor boy were killed
in different accidents on Sunday.
Two unidentified young men, said to be 25 and 27 years old respectively, were killed when a speeding dumper crashed into their motorcycle near Stadium Road situated in New Town police limits.
The driver of the dumper managed to flee, leaving his vehicle abandoned. Police reached the spot, seized his vehicle and registered the case. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate and Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
A young unidentified woman was knocked down to death, when a reckless hit-and-run vehicle ran over her while she was crossing road near Korangi No-2-1/2 in Zaman Town police area.
In Machar Colony, eight-year-old, Ibrahim son of Abdul Samad died, when a wall of his house fell over him while he was sleeping. His family members took him to Civil Hospital, where doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.
The family took his body without following medico-legal formalities.
