PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan Friday announced reopening coal mines in Sheikhan area of Orakzai Agency.
Talking to a delegation of coal mine owners of
Sheikhan area from Orakzai Agency at the Governor’s House here, he said reopening the mines would create job
opportunities and pave the way for economic development.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan directed the officials to constitute a committee
to conduct a detailed survey of coal mines in Orakzai and
adjoining areas in order to
redress the grievances of
the mine owners and leaseholders to streamline the smooth working in the mineral sector.
Led by Malik Izzat Gul, the mine owners included Malik Fazal Hakim, Malik Haji Said Noor Shah, Malik Muhammad Rafique and others.
The governor linked
peace to economic revival
and added that steps had
been taken to provide employment opportunities to youth in Fata.
He directed taking steps to support mineral sector by strengthening the capacity of the Mineral Rescue Satellite Centre in Hangu and stressed that effective working at the centre should be ensured to facilitate mineral sector in the area.
The governor issued
directives to construct access road to the coal mines and establish a drainage and water pump system to minimise the damage to the coal mines caused due to rain water.
The delegation apprised the governor of the problems and difficulties.
The governor assured the delegation of taking necessary action.
The governor said the government was aware of the difficulties and problems of
the tribespeople, adding
that steps were being undertaken at all levels to redress the grievances of the tribespeople.
The governor said restoration of peace, rehabilitation of tribespeople and improvement of infrastructure in Fata
were priorities of the government.
