PESHAWAR: People from various walks of life Tuesday staged a protest against the practice of celebrating two Eids and demanded the government to take measures to discourage the trend.
The participants gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club to demand one Eid. Chairman of Awan Welfare Foundation Arif Khan and president of Anjuman-i-Tajiran Gulberg were leading the protesters.
The speakers deplored the practice of celebrating two Eids in the country for the last few years. They said that the practice was dividing the nation.
They asked the Chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Munibur Rehman and head of a local moon-sighting committee, Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai to sit together to solve the issue once and for all.
