A delegation of Pakistan United Christian Movement headed by Chairman Albert David called on Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Ch Shujaat Hussain at his residence on Monday and discussed participation in greater opposition alliance.
The movement’s executive committee and all district office-bearers meeting will be held in Islamabad. On this occasion, former federal Law Minister Dr Khalid Ranjha was present.
Welcoming the delegation, Ch Shujaat Hussain said his party will continue safeguarding the religious, social and economic rights of all minority Pakistan brethren like in the past. We have always supported the minorities, this is the reason that our party in particular the government of Ch Pervaiz Elahi in the Punjab had returned 45 nationalized educational institutions including FC College of the Christian missions, gave proprietary rights to the residents of minorities kachi abadis, besides establishing for the first time fully-empowered Ministry for Minority Affairs in Punjab, distributed the state land among landless minority farmers, gave scholarships, and increased development funds many times, he said.
Ch Shujaat added besides giving the right of double vote to the minorities in the elections, PML-Q fixed quota for them in jobs. Chairman Albert David said seats for non-Muslims in National and Provincial Assemblies be increased, out of women reserved seats five per cents be fixed for the minorities and Federal Ministry for Minority Affairs be restored.
