Q1: I have recently completed my bachelors in BE Electronics Engineering from Karachi with 3.6 CGPA. My plan is to do MS in (Power Engineering or Control Systems) but admissions are closed; so I have to wait for next year for admission. My father is insisting me to do MBA without wasting time. I have also applied for jobs in many companies, industries and factories to get experience but still waiting for answer from them. (Zahid Latif – Karachi)
Ans: My advice to you is to wait and do your best to find an appropriate job or internship in the industry. Doing an MBA at this stage especially without any experience will not help you at all. Work experience followed by an MBA is always more beneficial.
Q2: I have done MA in Political Science and want to study further. Please suggest me which specialisation should I choose for MPhil. Your advice will be much appreciated. (Zain Bashir – Multan)
Ans: Political Science has lot of offshoots and I would suggest you to look at connecting with International Politics, International Relations or Public Policy. All these subjects will enhance your basic subject of political science especially if you are looking to do a CSS or planning to teach.
Q3: I have done Telecom Engineering in 2012, after that for 1 year I had been engaged in CSS for preparation and exams. I have engaged myself in full time job from 2013 till 2015 but both were not relevant to my field. Now I am very confused and depressed regarding my career, some people suggest me that I should do MBA or other network certification. Please guide me accordingly. (Bakir Hussain – Peshawar)
Ans: There is no need of being depressed about your career. I would still suggest that you do some hard work in locating and finding a job or internship within the telecom industry and work for couple of years in your own field before moving to see towards a masters degree either in advance telecom or an MBA that would help you to find management prospects within the communication industry.
Q4: I have seen your column and found it very beneficial. I want to ask you a question about my nephew, he had been enrolled in DAE Computer Science from Aligarh Institute of Technology and want to explore job and future educational scope in this field. (Hamid Raza – Lahore)
Ans: Computer Science has a huge scope and I am sure your nephew will find better career opportunities. I would suggest that he selects one of the following fields within the Computer Science once he chooses to do his bachelor’s degree. Internet Security, Cyber Security and Networking with these major subject areas he has better opportunities of finding job.
