Ombudswoman Dr Farkhanda Waseem Afzal has said it is binding upon all government and semi-government departments of Punjab to implement the Women Protection Act 2010.
The ombudswoman expressed these views while chairing a meeting. She said act 2010 is applicable to all government, semi-government, government and private hospitals, collages, universities and factories. Narrating the details of the act, Farkhanda Waseem Afzal said that it is compulsory for all government and semi-government departments to constitute an inquiry committee in which there must be a woman member. She said there should a competent authority in every department for this purpose. Ombudswoman said that the code of conduct in English or any other language which employees could easily understand should be displayed prominently. She said that if there is any violation, a complaint can be lodged under section 11 of act 2010 to the ombudswoman. She said besides ensuring protection, the women can also discharge their national obligation so that they could play their due role in the national development without any fear.
Dr Farkhanda said that if head of any department does not constitute inquiry committee, appoint competent authority and display code of conduct at prominent place, a fine up to one lakh rupees can be imposed.
