CHAKWAL: Three members of the corporate sector were elected unopposed in the annual election of the Chakwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Thursday.
Irfan Hussain, Chaudhry Yaseen and Noor Sultan of the Qazi Akbar group were elected unopposed.
The only candidate and head of the founder group Sahbzada Abdul Qadoos Naqshbandi could not find the man who might second him for the polls.
However, nomination papers of the members of the founder group Sahbzada Abdul Qadoos, Chaudhry Ahmad Khan and Asif Mehmood were accepted.
Nomination papers of the Qazi Akbar group members Khawaja Arif Yousaf, Abdul Hafeez Anjum and Haji Abdul Razzaque were also accepted.
The polls for the three seats of the associate members will be held on September 12 and 99 members will vote for the three seats.
CLAIM TO RAISE LITERACY RATE: EDO (education) Dr Ghulam Murtaza Thursday said Chakwal was among the top five districts in the country where literacy rate was above 84 per cent.
Addressing a function held at Hyde Park Press Club, the EDO said all children of the locals would be enrolled in schools and in next 2 to 3 years the literacy rate of the district would be 100 per cent.
An award titled Dhan 84 was awarded to Syed Munir Haider Shah in recognition of his services rendered by him in the field of education.
Maulana Mehmood ul Hassan Ghanzafar, Khawaja Babar Saleem Mehmood, Nimra Mumtaz, Chairman Zkat and Usher committee Sultan Raza Jami and Syed Munir Haider Shah also spoke and paid rich tributes to Syed Munir. The EDO was also awarded with the Dhan 84 award.
