CHITRAL: Civil society activists and people from various walks of life on Thursday asked the government to expedite rehabilitation work in the flood-hit district. Speaking at a press conference, Niaz A Niazi, Prof Said Shamsun Nazar Fatimi, Sher Aziz Baig, Ghulam Mustafa, Maulana Hidayatur Rehman and others said that the government should take measures on emergency basis to reconstruct infrastructure, which were devastated by the flood. They said that the government had failed to take steps to restore infrastructure despite lapse of a month. They said that devastation of roads, bridges, irrigation system and pipelines had caused scarcity of edibles in Shoghore, Khot, Morkhow and other areas. “More areas would also be affected if the situation remained the same and the government did not take extraordinary steps for reconstruction of infrastructure,” Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said, adding that people were reconstructing roads, bridges and other infrastructure on self-help basis. They, however, appreciated relief operation being carried out by the various non-governmental organisations.
