NOWSHERA: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) here Friday nominated Liaqat Khattak, brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, for the office of district chairman.
Speaking at a press conference, Member National Assembly and PTI’s district organiser Imran Khattak said the party emerged as the leading party in the local government elections and would form district government in Nowshera.
He said Liaqat Khattak has been nominated for the district chairmanship on the demand of the PTI’s workers and was a strong and suitable candidate for the position.He said contacts were being made with the independently elected councillors to join the PTI. “The five independents would soon announce joining the PTI,” he claimed.
He said that consultation would be made for choosing the party’s candidates for
tehsil chairman and deputy chairman for Nowshera, Pabbi and Jehangira tehsils of the district.Flanked by Member Provincial Assembly and district deputy organiser Idrees Khattak, Imran Khattak said the success of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidates in the local government election should be an eye-opener for the opposition parties.
He said the PTI’s-led provincial government has put the province on the path to development and eliminated corruption from the government departments and promoted culture of merit. The PTI has won 30 out of the 47 district council seats in Nowshera. It can easily form the district government and also the tehsil government in Nowshera, Pabbi and Jehangira.
According to unofficial results, Awami National Party won eight seats while five independent candidates, two Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) nominees, and one candidate each of the Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz were elected to the district council.
