PESHAWAR: A delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) experts on Wednesday inspected various portions and stations of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and termed the standard and speed of work satisfactory.

In a statement released to the media, a spokesman for the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) said that a delegation of the ADB experts inspected various portions and stations of the BRT project. He said that the PDA officials briefed the delegation about the project and assured that the project would be completed in its stipulated time period.

The PDA officials, it said, informed the experts that work on the long 27.4 kilometres BRT corridor had been completed, while work on the stations continued and would be completed in the stipulated time period for the soft opening of the BRT project.

The ADB is helping Pakistan provide safe, modern urban transport services in Peshawar. The project will construct the city’s first Bus Rapid Transit corridor with 31 stations and facilities including bicycle lanes, as well as safety features for women and children.

It said the ADB experts expressed satisfaction at the standard and mode of work of the BRT project and hoped that new bus system would help improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and benefit an estimated 500,000 people.

During the inspection, it said, the delegation also asked the officials to facilitate the commuters by removing some hurdles at various points for the smooth flow of traffic in the city.

However, it said the ADP delegation assured the cooperation to the PDA and government for improvement in the present infrastructure of the city and provision of other facilities to the citizens as to bring Peshawar as a developed city of the country.
