Govt to improve private schools, says minister

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Schools Education Murad Raas said a roadmap has been prepared to improve the organisational standard of small and medium-scale private educational institutions in the province so that best education could be provided to the children who mostly belong to the low-income families. He was addressing the annual prize distribution ceremony of a private school.

Murad said the government was working round-the-clock for the betterment of the education sector and private schools were being encouraged to provide necessary educational facilities to the students including sports and co-curricular activities.

He asked the teachers to encourage their students to take part in co-curricular activities so the sportsman-spirit, confidence and leadership abilities could be inculcated in them. He said education sector should not be treated as a money-minting machine as its broader aim should be to transformation of the society. It would help them to emerge as the useful citizens of the society.

awareness campaign: Punjab government has decided to launch a massive awareness campaign to cover all areas and every child to alleviate polio virus.

Lahore Division Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Piracha said this while chairing a meeting here on Monday. He said polio vaccine would be provided to all private hospitals to widen the scope of polio campaign. He said all private medical units and hospitals would put prominent display about the availability of polio vaccine. He said polio two drops in every campaign were compulsory for all children to save their lives from permanent disability.

Effective awareness campaign with the help of WHO, media and other informal ways were need of the hour, he added. He said close coordination with PITB monitoring system regarding polio teams must be in focus to curb negligence of polio staff. He directed for holding a seminar to review formal and informal ways of awareness for families of slum areas. He chaired a meeting regarding polio monitoring system in his office.

DC Lahore Saliha Saeed, ACG Anum Zaid and team of PITB participated in the meeting. Commissioner Lahore Division said polio teams would be deployed at each hospital with polio desk and also directed for involving child specialists in polio campaign.

welfare schools: Provincial Minister for Labour & Human Resource Anser Majeed Khan visited workers’ welfare schools for boys at Nishtar Colony and Bhubtian Chowk and started the plantation campaign.

The minister went to the classrooms and shook hand with the students. He directed the administration of the schools to arrange sports activities for the students. He said workers’ welfare schools would be made model schools by providing all out resources. He said no negligence would be tolerated for imparting education to the students of workers’ welfare schools. He said special attention should be paid for the cleanliness condition of workers’ welfare schools.
