KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) on Wednesday vowed stern action against power thieves once the amnesty period the company announced ends tomorrow (May 15).
“During this period, defaulters and electricity thieves may take advantage and settle their dues and matter,” said Tayyab Tareen, chief executive officer of KE, in a statement.
Tareen, in a meeting with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials, shared with them a list of thieves, who owe staggering dues to the power company. He discussed with them the ongoing campaign against the power theft, ‘Operation Burq’. KE is committed to continue this operation with the help of FIA and police without any favour to the strong and powerful.
The meeting discussed the details and progress related to Operation Burq. Director FIA Shahid Hayat Khan acknowledged and appreciated KE’s campaign against electricity defaulters and thieves across the city. Khan assured KE of full cooperation in a drive against power thieves. The views were shared about the benefits of this move initiated in the light of the directive of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to curb the menace of electricity theft under the Section 39 of the Electricity Act 1910 to FIA’s schedule of offences.
The KE’s spokesperson said people are complaining about power thieves. “We are ready to pounce on such culprits, who are present in most pockets of this city,” said the spokesperson.
