ISLAMABAD: The ruling PML-N claims PTI has submitted not a single evidence to prove the ruling party’s involvement in the alleged rigging still the PML-N’s legal team has prepared its reply to be submitted before the commission.
Federal minister for information and broadcasting Senator Pervez Rashid while told The News the legal team of PML-N has prepared its reply which would be submitted before the judicial commission in the next hearing. He said renowned lawyer Shahid Hamid would represent the PML-N in the judicial commission.
Although the commission has asked no specific question from PML-N in the notice however the legal team would focus on three things.“First of all our lawyer would argue that during the whole proceedings of the judicial commission the PTI has been focusing on the irregularities in various constituencies. The PML-N has already presented its stance on various forums that the matter of irregularities in various constituencies is in the Election Tribunals. Under Article 225 of the Constitution only Election Tribunals are authorised to hear the cases of irregularities in the election results and the PML-N’s legal team would argue on this point”.
Secondly, the minister said, our legal team would also repeat the same question which has been asked by the judicial commission from PTI as to who was involved in rigging and how it was a systematic rigging.
Moreover, during the whole proceedings of judicial commission, the role and performance of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been discussed. PTI has submitted no evidence against PML-N top leadership then how could it be held answerable, asked Pervez Rashid.
“We have received the notice with a very short period to submit our reply however no specific question has been asked by the commission in this notice. PTI chairman Imran Khan has on many occasions accused PML-N of rigging in the general elections.
He ran a massive anti-rigging campaign and staged sit-in after which a judicial commission has been constituted to probe the allegations of rigging. However, surprisingly the PTI leadership and its legal team has neither submitted any evidence nor mentioned the name of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the witnesses list though PTI has accused him of being part of the rigging plan.
