Preston University organised an inter-university ‘Singing Competition’, under the ongoing mega event of the University -’Spring Splash 2015,’ says a press release.
Eminent playback singer Humaira Channa was the chief guest on the occasion. Popular folk singers Javed Niazi and Babar Niazi and playback singer Sonia Azeem were the judges of the competition. The competition was divided into two categories, male and female. The universities which took part in the female category of the competition were: Punjab University, Lahore, Hamdard University, Islamabad, Quaid-i-Azam University, Preston University, Islamabad and Peshawar and PINSAT, Islamabad.
In the male category, the participating universities were: Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad, Punjab University, Lahore, Hamdard University, Islamabad, Abasyn University, Peshawar and Preston University Islamabad, Kohat and Lahore.
The students of the participating universities enthralled the jubilant audience comprising of students, staff and faculty of Preston University and other guests by their remarkable singing talent. The brilliant performances of the participating students spellbound the chief guest Humaira Channa and the judges totally, and made it difficult for them to determine the first, second and third positions.
In the female category of the competition, first, second and third prizes were awarded to Naushaba Anjum of Preston University, Peshawar, Javeria Shoaib of Preston University, Islamabad and Thecla Trinity of Preston Institute of Nano Science and Technology (PINSAT) Islamabad, respectively .
In male category of the singing competition, first, second and third prizes were awarded to Ali Hassan of Punjab University, Lahore; Imran Ali of Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi and M. Sajjawal of Hamdard University, Islamabad, respectively.
In her brief remarks on occasion, chief guest Humaira Channa, praised the singing of the participating students. The judges of the competition singers Javed Niazi and Babar Niazi and Sonia Azim also appreciated the singing talent of the competing students.
The Chancellor of Preston University, Dr. Abdul Basit on the occasion said that the performance of the participating students was excellent. He endorsed the views of the chief guest Humaira Channa and the judges. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of both categories of the inter-university singing competition.
