Police have arrested the in-laws of a 22-year-old woman for murdering her and her three-month-old son by pushing them of the balcony of their eighth floor apartment on Wednesday morning.
According to Frere Police Station SHO Rana Lateef, police received a report that Rimsha and her son Abdul Hadi reportedly fell off the eighth floor of a residential building in Dehli Colony. He said the locals rushed the two to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Hadi was declared dead while his mother succumbed to her injuries moments later.
Police handed over the bodies to the heirs after completing medico-legal formalities and began an investigation. The SHO said Rimsha’s family had accused her in-laws of murdering her and her infant son.
He added that the investigation found that Rimsha and her husband Rizwan had contracted love marriage 18 months ago, and a few months later Rizwan had left for Dubai to work, while his wife stayed back with the in-laws.
According to the SHO, a woman approached the police and had told them that she was the first one to arrive at the scene when the two fell. The woman claimed that Rimsha, who was critically injured, told her that her husband’s brother and mother had thrown her and her small baby from the apartment’s balcony over a domestic issue.
The witness also said Rimsha told her that her brother-in-law and mother-in-law had tortured her before pushing her off the balcony. Moreover, the preliminary report of JPMC’s medico-legal examiner confirmed that Rimsha had torture marks on her body.
“In light of the woman’s statement and medico-legal examiner’s report, police raided Rimsha’s house and arrested her brother-in-law Akram and his mother,” the SHO said. Police has begun interrogating the suspects, he added.
