HAFIZABAD: A noted orthopaedic, Dr Hafiz Fiaz Ahmad, who was kidnapped about three months ago, was released after payment of Rs 6 million ransom.
Unidentified people had kidnapped the doctor when he was returning to his house from his clinic near Gujranwala Road on December 16, 2014. Later, the kidnappers contacted the family members and demanded Rs 100 million ransom for his release. To it, the family contacted police and got an abduction case registered.
During the last three months, the kidnappers remained in touch with the doctor’s family and the deal was struck at Rs 6 million. On Thursday, the kidnappers released the doctor somewhere between Gujranwala and Sialkot after receiving Rs 6 million ransom.
Although police failed to recover the abductee from the clutches of the kidnappers, yet District Police Officer Shakir Hussain Dawar claimed that they had made all-out efforts to recover the abductee and apprehended more than 25 suspects from Lahore, Okara, Multan and other cities but remained clueless because the gang seemed to be well organised. The DPO said that it seemed that the kidnappers belonged to Gujranwala region. He said that police would arrest the kidnappers with the help of the doctor. When asked about his ordeal, Dr Hafiz Fiaz Ahmad remained reluctant to provide any detail.
Meanwhile, the people from different walks of life have demanded the IGP, the RPO and the DPO arrest the kidnappers immediately to create a sense of security among the citizens.
